Interesting study done on combining LLM and memory to create autonomous generative agents - little people going about their lives in a simulation.
Nick Bostrom's Simulation Argument: https://www.simulation-argument.com/
The Simulation Argument is based on the following three propositions:
Almost all civilizations at our level of technological development become extinct before they reach the stage where they can create ancestor simulations (highly realistic simulations of their historical predecessors).
If civilizations do reach that stage, they are unlikely to have much interest in running such simulations.
We are almost certainly living in a computer simulation.
Generative Agents: Interactive Simulacra of Human Behaviour:
Powerful study done on autonomous agents powered by Large Language Models and memory in a simulated environment.
"In this paper, we introduce generative agents--computational software agents that simulate believable human behaviour. Generative agents wake up, cook breakfast, and head to work; artists paint, while authors write; they form opinions, notice each other, and initiate conversations; they remember and reflect on days past as they plan the next day."
